Keelyn McGiboney

Cowboy Mounted Shooting

Keelyn grew up near San Diego, but recently returned to her family roots in Southern Indiana. She was two when she was first put on a horse yet did not start riding until she was thirteen.  She took english and western lessons competing locally until she was told about Cowboy Mounted Shooting.  The sport is the perfect sport to marry her two passions of shooting and riding.  In 2016, she started competing in mounted shooting and has not looked back and has had her Taylor Running Irons with her from the beginning for the ride.

Keelyn quickly moved up levels to a Ladies 3 in her first year.  Two surgeries for a torn ACL and then a broken leg (both non-horse related) sidelined her, but also gave her the drive to push harder and succeed.  Four months after the latter she won her class at World Championships.   She studied under the guidance of a professional trainer for 4 years and in 2021 she made the move.  She is proud of her accomplishments both in and out of the arena.  Her major titles include:

Notable Highlights:

  • 2022 US Winter Championship L5 Winner and Top 10 Overall
  • 2021 Lone Star Classic Overall Cowgirl
  • 2021 TLC Classic Overall Cowgirl
  • 2020 World Championship L4 Winner

Another highlight for Keelyn, has been riding in the Rose Parade with the Spirit of the West Riders and promoting the John Wayne Cancer Foundation.  Her love of horses is carrying over to her field of study, as she is attending school for Equine Nutrition and working as an intern with Excel Equine.  Balancing school, her side business of leather work, and her sport keeps Keelyn busy.
